Far above, high below, there where nobody dares to go *

I saw the wing, a voice, a sting, but nothing before me could be, it seemed . . . so grey *

out at once so climb did I to find that here ground's same as sky *

so to my shade before the sun where once were two now towered one *

the more I walked to some extreme the greater its opposite walked with me *

I drew the sword only to find my grave below was already lined *

not to boast but find did I that all these things were in mine eye *

so to death I smiled, and accepted her cool embrace . . . for she was only me
